The Birth Place Tour This tour offers a chance for you and your family to become acquainted with the unit. You will be able to meet the staff on duty, discuss various childbirth options, and ask questions. Tours are conducted by the nursing staff. Call 621-4244 to arrange a personal tour. Childbirth Preparation Classes These are fun classes that combine pertinent information with group activities to prepare expectant families for pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. A childbirth educator will give instructions on pregnancy, discomfort relief measures, nutrition and exercise, the process of labor and birth, fetal development, caring for the newborn, and much more. Classes are usually held in the Hospital classroom, first floor. There is no charge to those delivering at Wahiawa General Hospital. Others pay $50.00 for the sessions. The Sibling Class This class is for expectant parents and, particularly, their children. The class is taught by a staff nurse. It focuses on siblings and helps them understand the responsibilities and rewards of being a big brother or sister. The class is interactive, affording participants a hands-on learning experience. A video is shown and a tour of the unit is given. The times and dates for this class vary according to public request and nurse availability. This class is held in The Birth Place unit, on the 3rd floor. Yes… it's FREE! Newborn Care On an ongoing basis, The Birth Place teaches new parents about newborn care, such as feeding, bathing, and caring for the newborn in general. First-time mothers are shown a video covering these topics and are given personalized attention and support by our nurses. |
